How to use this sheet
Write each team's name at the top of a column; for cutthroat Spades, give each player a column instead. Before each hand, add the partners' bids together and write the team's bid. After the hand, write the tricks the team won.
A team that wins at least as many tricks as it bid scores 10 points for each trick bid, plus 1 point for each extra trick. Those extra tricks are bags: every tenth bag costs the team 100 points. A team that wins fewer tricks than it bid loses 10 points for each trick bid.
If a player bids nil, leave them out of the team's bid and tap Nil in that round once the hand is over: once for a nil made (100 points), twice for a nil failed (−100). The first team to 500 wins.
Two teams, first hand
Ana and Ben bid 4 + 3 = 7, win 8 tricks71
Cleo and Dev bid 3 + 2 = 5, win 5 tricks50
Ana and Ben lead 71 to 50 and carry 1 bag
Spades questions
How do you score Spades? A team that makes its bid scores 10 points for each trick it bid, plus 1 point for each trick over the bid. A team that falls short loses 10 points for each trick it bid. Nil bids add or lose 100 points.
What are bags in Spades? Bags, or sandbags, are tricks won over a team's bid. Each one is worth 1 point, but every time a team collects 10 bags it loses 100 points and starts counting again.
How does a nil bid work? A player who bids nil promises to win no tricks. If they manage it, their team scores 100 points; if they win even one trick, the team loses 100. Their partner's bid is scored on its own.
What happens if you don't make your bid? The team is set: it loses 10 points for every trick it bid, and the tricks it did win score nothing.
How many points do you play to in Spades? Usually 500. The first team to reach 500 at the end of a hand wins; if both teams pass 500 in the same hand, the higher score wins. Some groups play to 300 for a shorter game, which you can choose on the online sheet.
Can you play Spades with three players? Yes, as cutthroat Spades: each player keeps their own score, bids alone and scores their own tricks. Give each player a column on the sheet.
